German police shut down criminal DDoS-for-Hire service FlyHosting

German authorities have seized servers of FlyHosting, a dark web service catering to cybercriminals and threat actors operating DDoS-for-Hire services.

Active since November 2022, the service was used for malicious activities like hosting malware, botnet controllers, and carrying out DDoS attacks.

As per KrebsOnSecurity's report, the police issued eight search warrants on March 30, and identified five individuals aged 16-24 suspected of operating “an internet service” since mid-2021.

During raids the law enforcement authorities also seized mobile phones, laptops, tablets, storage media and handwritten notes, and confiscated servers operated by the suspects in Germany, Finland and the Netherlands.

The FlyHosting takedown comes amid a broader law enforcement effort to disrupt DDoS-for-hire services internationally. Recently, the UK’s national Crime Agency has revealed that it set up a number of fake DDoS-for-Hire sites as part of a sustained program of activity to disrupt and undermine DDoS as a criminal service.
