Ukraine dismantles massive bot farm spreading Russian propaganda

The Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine has taken down a massive bot farm that was used to disseminate pro-Russian disinformation about the war in Ukraine.

The farm operators used special equipment and software to create thousands of fake accounts on social media sites through which they spread Russian narratives, as well as unlawfully distributed the personal data of Ukrainians. The fake accounts were also used as part of online fraud schemes, the authorities said.

The police conducted 21 raids in Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, and Lviv. During the searches, 150,000 SIM cards as well as over 250 internet gateways were seized.

The press release doesn’t mention whether any arrests were made. According to the authorities, more than 100 people were involved in running the bot farm.
