Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2012-5534)
The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to read and manipulate data.
The hook_process function in the plugin API for WeeChat 0.3.0 through 0.3.9.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in a command from a plugin, related to "shell expansion."
2) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2012-5854)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in Heap-based buffer overflow in WeeChat 0.3.6 through 0.3.9. A remote attacker can use crafted IRC colors that are not properly decoded. to trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
