Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Cross-site scripting (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-9241)

Vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform XSS attacks.

The vulnerability is caused by an input validation error in MyBB (aka MyBulletinBoard) 1.8.x before 1.8.2 when processing the (1) type parameter to report.php, (2) signature parameter in a do_editsig action to usercp.php, or (3) title parameter in the style-templates module in an edit_template action or (4) file parameter in the config-languages module in an edit action to admin/index.php. A remote attacker can trick the victim to follow a specially crafted link and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in victim's browser in security context of vulnerable website.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.


2) SQL injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2014-9240)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary SQL queries in database.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data passed via the question_id parameter in a do_register action. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted request to the affected application and execute arbitrary SQL commands within the application database.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to read, delete, modify data in database and gain complete control over the affected application.
