No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability. However, proof of concept for this vulnerability is available.

2) Heap-based buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU39564

Risk: High

CVSSv4.0: 8.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber]

CVE-ID: CVE-2016-8863

CWE-ID: CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in Heap-based buffer overflow in the create_url_list function in gena/gena_device.c in Portable UPnP SDK (aka libupnp) before 1.6.21. A remote attacker can use a valid URI followed by an invalid one in the CALLBACK header of an SUBSCRIBE request. to trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
net-libs/libupnp to version: 1.6.21

Vulnerable software versions
