Description
This security bulletin contains information about 1 security vulnerability.
1) Race condition (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-6001)
The vulnerability allows a local user to elevate privileges.The vulnerability is caused by a race condition in kernel/events/core.c file in the Linux kernel before 4.9.7. A local user can send concurrent perf_event_open system calls for moving a software group into a hardware context and execute arbitrary code on the system with elevated privileges.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a local user to obtain root privileges.
Note: this vulnerability is caused by an incomplete fix for CVE-2016-6786.
