EUVDB-ID: #VU6370
Risk: High
CVSSv4.0: 5.7 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber]
CVE-ID: CVE-2016-10327
CWE-ID:
CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing EMF files with bitmap data preceded by a header and a field with in that header which states the offset from the start of the header to the bitmap data. A remote attacker cat embed a malicious EMF file into Office document, trick the victim into opening it, trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to compromise vulnerable system.
MitigationUpdate the affected packages
Ubuntu: 14.04 - 16.10
CPE2.3https://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-3273-1/
Q & A
Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?
Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.
Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?
No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

CWE-ID:
CWE-122 - Heap-based Buffer Overflow
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing WMF files with polygons which under certain circumstances when processed (split) can result in output polygons which have too many points to be represented by LibreOffice's internal polygon class. A remote attacker cat embed a malicious WMF file into Office document, trick the victim into opening it, trigger heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to compromise vulnerable system.
