CVE-ID: CVE-2016-9601

CWE-ID: CWE-190 - Integer overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow when processing images within jbig2dec library. A remote attacker can pass a specially crafted image file to application, using the vulnerable library, and crash it.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages:

Ubuntu 17.04:
libjbig2dec0 0.13-4ubuntu0.1
jbig2dec 0.13-4ubuntu0.1
Ubuntu 16.10:
libjbig2dec0 0.13-2ubuntu0.1
jbig2dec 0.13-2ubuntu0.1
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS:
libjbig2dec0 0.12+20150918-1ubuntu0.1
jbig2dec 0.12+20150918-1ubuntu0.1
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS:
libjbig2dec0 0.11+20120125-1ubuntu1.1

2) Integer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU6702

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 4.7 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:L/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2017-7885

CWE-ID: CWE-190 - Integer overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to obtain potentially sensitive information or cause DoS condition.

The weakness exists due to integer overflow in the jbig2_decode_symbol_dict function in jbig2_symbol_dict.c in libjbig2dec.a during operation on a crafted .jb2 file. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted .jb2 file, trigger heap-based buffer over-read and access arbitrary files from process memory or cause the application to crash.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in information disclosure or denial of service.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages:

Ubuntu 17.04:
libjbig2dec0 0.13-4ubuntu0.1
jbig2dec 0.13-4ubuntu0.1
Ubuntu 16.10:
libjbig2dec0 0.13-2ubuntu0.1
jbig2dec 0.13-2ubuntu0.1
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS:
libjbig2dec0 0.12+20150918-1ubuntu0.1
jbig2dec 0.12+20150918-1ubuntu0.1
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS:
libjbig2dec0 0.11+20120125-1ubuntu1.1
jbig2dec 0.11+20120125-1ubuntu1.1

3) Integer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU6703

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 8.3 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2017-7975

CWE-ID: CWE-190 - Integer overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause DoS condition or execute arbitrary code.

The weakness exists due to integer overflow in the jbig2_build_huffman_table function in jbig2_huffman.c during operations on a crafted JBIG2 file. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted .jb2 file, trigger out-of-bounds writes and cause the application to crash or execute arbitrary code with privileges of the current user.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages:

Ubuntu 17.04:
libjbig2dec0 0.13-4ubuntu0.1
jbig2dec 0.13-4ubuntu0.1
Ubuntu 16.10:
