Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Security feature bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-11877)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass certain security restrictions.

The vulnerability exists due to Microsoft Office does not enforce macro settings on an Excel document. A remote attacker can embed a control in an Excel worksheet that specifies a macro and runs it on the system.

2) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-11878)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to boundary error when processing Excel files. A remote unauthenticated attacker can create a specially crafted Excel file, trick the victim into opening it, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
