Description

This security bulletin contains information about 3 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-6951)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.

The weakness exists in the intuit_diff_type function due to NULL pointer dereference. A remote attacker can cause the service to crash.

2) Double Free (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-6952)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing untrusted input within the another_hunk() function in pch.c. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted file, trick the victim into using in with the affected application, trigger a double free error and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.


3) Improper input validation (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-1000156)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The weakness exists in the EDITOR_PROGRAM invocation due to improper input validation. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted patch file and execute arbitrary code.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may result in system compromise.
