Description

This security bulletin contains information about 4 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Untrusted search path (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-0570)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a logic error in BIOS firmware for 8th, 9th and 10th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) Processor. An attacker with physical access to the system can execute arbitrary code and gain unauthorized access to the system.

This vulnerability was initially reported in QLibrary from Qt for certain x86 machines searches that were performed for certain libraries and plugins relative to current working directory of the application. A local user can place files in the file system and influence the working directory of Qt-based applications to load and execute malicious code. 

Note, this vulnerability does not affect Windows systems.

2) Untrusted search path (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-0569)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to QPluginLoader in Qt searches for certain plugins first on the current working directory of the application. A local user can place files in the file system and influence the working directory of Qt-based applications to load and execute malicious code. 

Note, this vulnerability does not affect Windows systems.


3) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-18281)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the generateDirectionalRuns() function in qtextengine.cpp in Qt qtbase. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted file, containing many directional characters, trick the victim into opening it, trigger out-of-bounds read error and crash the affected application.


4) Division by zero (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-19872)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to division by zero error when processing PPM images. A remote attacker can trick the victim to open a specially crafted image and crash the affected application.
