DescriptionThe disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via the username template object.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data passed via the "username" template object in "include/rcmail_output_html.php". A remote attacker can trick the victim to follow a specially crafted link and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user's browser in context of vulnerable website.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.
MitigationUpdate roundcube package to one of the following versions: 1.2.3+dfsg.1-4+deb9u5, 1.3.13+dfsg.1-1~deb10u1.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data when processing data passed via a malicious XML attachment because text/xml is among the allowed types for a preview. A remote attacker can open a specially crafted email and arbitrary JavaScript code will be executed in user's browser in context of vulnerable website.
