Description

This security bulletin contains information about 14 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-16201)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input within the WEBrick::HTTPAuth::DigestAuth in Ruby due to a regular expression issue. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted request to the application and perform a denial of service attack.

2) Information disclosure (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-10933)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to BasicSocket#read_nonblock method outputs previous value of the heap instead of copying the requested data. A remote attacker can gain access to sensitive information on the system.

3) Code injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-16255)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to improper input validation in lib/shell.rb in Ruby when processing Shell#[] and its alias Shell#test. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted request and execute arbitrary Ruby code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

4) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-15845)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass certain security restrictions.

The vulnerability exists in Ruby due to insufficient validation of user-supplied files within File.fnmatch and File.fnmatch? functions when processing NUL byte in the filename. A remote attacker can bypass implemented security restrictions and gain unauthorized access to the system.

5) Improper Certificate Validation (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-32066)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform MitM attack.

The vulnerability exists in Net::IMAP in Ruby, due to the gem does not raise an exception when StartTLS fails with an an unknown response. A remote attacker can perform a man-in-the-middle (MitM) attack.

6) Spoofing attack (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-41819)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform spoofing attack.

The vulnerability exists due to incorrect processing of user-supplied data in CGI::Cookie.parse. A remote attacker can spoof page content.

7) Command Injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-31799)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to improper input validation. A remote unauthenticated attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application and execute arbitrary commands on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

8) Incorrect Regular Expression (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-41817)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient input validation when processing regular expressions on date parsing methods. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application and perform regular expression denial of service (ReDos) attack.

9) XML External Entity injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-28965)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied XML input. A remote attacker can pass a specially crafted XML code to the affected application and view contents of arbitrary files on the system or initiate requests to external systems.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to view contents of arbitrary file on the server or perform network scanning of internal and external infrastructure.

10) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-10663)

The vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to manipulate data.

The JSON gem through 2.2.0 for Ruby, as used in Ruby 2.4 through 2.4.9, 2.5 through 2.5.7, and 2.6 through 2.6.5, has an Unsafe Object Creation Vulnerability. This is quite similar to CVE-2013-0269, but does not rely on poor garbage-collection behavior within Ruby. Specifically, use of JSON parsing methods can lead to creation of a malicious object within the interpreter, with adverse effects that are application-dependent.

11) Information disclosure (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-31810)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists within Net::FTP in Ruby when processing PASV responses. A remote attacker can trick the victim to connect to a malicious FTP server and trick Net::FTP into connecting back to a given IP address and port. This potentially makes curl extract information about services that are otherwise private and not disclosed (e.g., the attacker can conduct port scans and service banner extractions).

12) Insufficient verification of data authenticity (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-36327)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise the affected system.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient verification of data authenticity in Bundler, when  choosing a dependency source. The application selects a dependency source based on the highest gem version number, which means that a rogue gem found at a public source may be chosen, even if the intended choice was a private gem that is a dependency of another private gem that is explicitly depended on by the application.

13) HTTP Response Splitting (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-16254)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform HTTP response splitting attack.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of CRLF sequences within the WEBrick in Ruby. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted request to the application and perform a spoofing attack.

14) Inconsistent interpretation of HTTP requests (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-25613)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to preform HTTP request smuggling attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to improper validation of HTTP requests. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to the server and smuggle arbitrary HTTP headers.

Successful exploitation of vulnerability may allow an attacker to poison HTTP cache and perform phishing attacks.
