Description

This security bulletin contains information about 4 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-44224)

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform SSRF attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input in forward proxy configurations. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request and trick the web server to initiate requests to arbitrary systems or cause NULL pointer dereference error and crash the web server.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker gain access to sensitive data, located in the local network or send malicious requests to other servers from the vulnerable system.

SSRF if possible for configuration that mix forward and reverse proxy.


2) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-24977)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the xmlEncodeEntitiesInternal() function in libxml2/entities.c in libxml2. A remote attacker can pas specially crafted XML data to the affected application, trigger out-of-bounds read error and read contents of memory on the system.


3) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-22901)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to crash the application or compromise the vulnerable system.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error when processing creation of new TLS sessions or during client certificate negotiation. A remote attacker can force the application to connect to a malicious server, trigger a use-after-free error and crash the application.

Remote code execution is also possible if the application can be forced to initiate multiple transfers with a reused HTTP/1.1 connection or multiplexed HTTP/2 connection in order to inject a crafted memory content into the correct place in memory.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to compromise vulnerable system but requires that libcurl is using OpenSSL.


4) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-39275)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system or perform a denial of service attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the ap_escape_quotes()  function. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted request to the web server, trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system but requires that the Apache module passes untrusted data to the affected function.

According to vendor, No included modules pass untrusted data to these functions
