Description
This security bulletin contains information about 13 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Incorrect default permissions (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-8908)
The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to incorrect default permissions for files located in the temporary directory set by the Guava com.google.common.io.Files.createTempDir(). A local user with access to the system can view contents of files and directories or modify them.
2) Improper Authorization (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-1466)
The vulnerability allows a remote user to modify files on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to improper authorization. A remote user can add users to the master realm possible even though no respective permission was granted.
3) Improper Authorization (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-22978)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass authorization process.
The vulnerability exists due to input validation error when processing untrusted input in applications that are using RegexRequestMatcher with `.` in the regular expression. A remote non-authenticated attacker can bypass authorization checks.
4) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-22970)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input within the Spring MVC or Spring WebFlux applications. A remote user can pass specially crafted input to the application and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
5) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-36518)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing untrusted input. A remote attacker can trigger out-of-bounds write and cause a denial of service condition on the target system.
6) Incorrect Regular Expression (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-22950)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due improper input validation when processing SpEL expressions. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to the affected application and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
7) Code Injection (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-22965)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to improper input validation. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to the affected application and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
Note, the vulnerability is being actively exploited in the wild.
This vulnerability was dubbed "Spring4Shell".
8) Improper initialization (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-21724)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to escalate privileges on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to improper initialization in pgjdbc driver when handling attacker-controlled URL in connection properties as the driver does not verify if the class implements the expected interface before instantiating the class. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted URL to the affected application and execute arbitrary code in the system.
9) Integer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-22976)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow in BCrypt class with the maximum work factor (31) for BCryptPasswordEncoder. The encoder does not perform any salt rounds, which weakens encryption capabilities of the software.
10) Security features bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-22968)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass implemented security restrictions.
The vulnerability exists due to patterns for disallowedFields on a DataBinder are case sensitive, which means a field is not effectively protected unless it is listed
with both upper and lower case for the first character of the field,
including upper and lower case for the first character of all nested
fields within the property path. A remote attacker can bypass implemented security restrictions by passing case sensitive data to the application.
11) Path traversal (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-29425)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform directory traversal attacks.
The vulnerability exists due to input validation error within the FileNameUtils.normalize method when processing directory traversal sequences, such as "//../foo", or "\..foo". A remote attacker can send a specially crafted request and verify files availability in the parent folder.
12) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-25031)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to sensitive information.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input. A remote attacker can trick the victim into opening a specially crafted URL to display remote OpenAPI definitions.
13) Input validation error (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-26520)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to create arbitrary files on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input when handling jdbc URL or its properties. A remote attacker can call java.util.logging.FileHandler to write to arbitrary files through the loggerFile and loggerLevel connection properties.
Successful exploitation of the vulnerability may allow an attacker to create and executable arbitraru JSP file under a Tomcat web root.
