Description
This security bulletin contains information about 5 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Path traversal (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-29425)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform directory traversal attacks.
The vulnerability exists due to input validation error within the FileNameUtils.normalize method when processing directory traversal sequences, such as "//../foo", or "\..foo". A remote attacker can send a specially crafted request and verify files availability in the parent folder.
2) Infinite loop (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-45105)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to infinite loop within the StrSubstitutor class. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted input to the application, consume all available system resources and cause denial of service conditions.
Payload example: ${${::-${::-$${::-j}}}}
3) Inconsistent interpretation of HTTP requests (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-43797)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to preform HTTP request smuggling attacks.
The vulnerability exists due to improper validation of HTTP requests when processing control chars present at the beginning / end of the header name. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to the server and smuggle arbitrary HTTP headers.
Successful exploitation of vulnerability may allow an attacker to poison HTTP cache and perform phishing attacks.
4) Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-11979)
The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to incorrect patch for vulnerability #VU27924 (CVE-2020-1945). Apache Ant 1.10.8 changed the permissions of temporary files it created so that only the current user was allowed to access them. Unfortunately the fixcrlf task deleted the temporary file and created a new one without said protection, effectively nullifying the effort. This would still allow an attacker to inject modified source files into the build process.
5) Exposed dangerous method or function (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-10683)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to abuse implemented functionality.
The vulnerability exists due to dom4j allows by default external DTDs and External Entities. A remote attacker can abuse this functionality and perform XXE attack against application that uses dom4j default configuration.
