Description

This security bulletin contains information about 25 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-3341)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to application does not properly control consumption of internal resources when handling control channel messages . A remote attacker can trigger resource exhaustion and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.


2) Cleartext transmission of sensitive information (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-40217)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to sensitive information.

The vulnerability exists due to an error in ssl.SSLSocket implementation when handling TLS client authentication. A remote attacker can trick the application to send data unencrypted.


3) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-37788)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to application does not properly control consumption of internal resources. A remote attacker can trigger resource exhaustion and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.


4) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-35001)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the nft_byteorder() function. A local user can trigger an out-of-bounds write and execute arbitrary code on the target system.


5) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-29824)

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error in Py_FindObjects() function. A local user can trigger a use-after-free error and crash the application.


6) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-4911)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of GLIBC_TUNABLES environment variable. A local user can trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.

7) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-4813)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error within the gaih_inet() function when the getaddrinfo() function is called and the hosts database in /etc/nsswitch.conf is configured with SUCCESS=continue or SUCCESS=merge. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.



8) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-4806)

The vulnerability allows an attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error within the getaddrinfo() function. A remote attacker can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.



9) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-4527)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to gain access to potentially sensitive information or perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the getaddrinfo() function called with the AF_UNSPEC address family. A remote attacker with control over DNS server can send a DNS response via TCP larger than 2048 bytes, trigger an out-of-bounds read and crash the application or gain access to potentially sensitive information.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability requires that system is configured with no-aaaa mode via /etc/resolv.conf.




10) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-4128)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error within net/sched/cls_fw.c in classifiers (cls_fw, cls_u32, and cls_route) in the Linux Kernel. A local user can trigger a use-after-free error and execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.


11) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-4004)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error in the way a user triggers the nft_pipapo_remove function with the element, without a NFT_SET_EXT_KEY_END. A local user can execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.


12) Cross-site scripting (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-3978)

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data. A remote attacker can trick the victim to follow a specially crafted link and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user's browser in context of vulnerable website.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.


13) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-3090)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the ipvlan network driver in Linux kernel. A local user can trigger an out-of-bounds write and execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.


14) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-41723)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to application does not properly control consumption of internal resources in the HPACK decoder. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP/2 stream to the application, cause resource exhaustion and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.


15) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-2235)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error in the Linux Kernel Performance Events system. A local user can trigger a use-after-free error and execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.


16) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-1206)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a hash collision flaw in the IPv6 connection lookup table in the Linux kernel’s IPv6 functionality when an attacker makes a new kind of SYN flood attack. A remote attacker can increase the CPU usage of the server that accepts IPV6 connections up to 95%.


17) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-1095)

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference error in the nf_tables_updtable() function within the netfilter subsystem. A local user can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.


18) Use-after-free (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-0590)

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a use-after-free error within the qdisc_graft() function in net/sched/sch_api.c. A local user can trigger a use-after-free error and crash the kernel.


19) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-48303)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the from_header() function in list.c when handling V7 archives. A remote attacker can trick the victim to open a specially crafted V7 archive, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.


20) Resource management error (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-36879)

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to improper management of internal resources within the xfrm_expand_policies() function in net/xfrm/xfrm_policy.c. A local user can cause the refcount to be dropped twice and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.


21) Out-of-bounds read (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-2873)

The vulnerability allows a local user to crash the kernel.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary condition within the Intel iSMT SMBus host controller driver. A local user can send specially crafted data to the I2C_SMBUS IOCTL, trigger an out-of-bounds read error and crash the system.


22) Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-2503)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to the way dm-verity is used to restrict module/firmware loads to trusted root filesystem in LoadPin builds. Device-mapper table reloads currently allow users with root privileges to switch out the target with an equivalent dm-linear target and bypass verification till reboot. This allows root to bypass LoadPin and can be used to load untrusted and unverified kernel modules and firmware, which implies arbitrary kernel execution and persistence for peripherals that do not verify firmware updates.


23) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2020-36558)

The vulnerability allows a local user to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference error in the Linux kernel before 5.5.7 involving a VT_RESIZEX. A local user can perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.


24) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-44487)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to improperly control of consumption for internal resources when handling HTTP/2 requests with compressed HEADERS frames. A remote attacker can send a sequence of compressed HEADERS frames followed by RST_STREAM frames and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack, a.k.a. "Rapid Reset".

Note, the vulnerability is being actively exploited in the wild.


25) Resource exhaustion (CVE-ID: CVE-2023-39325)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to excessive consumption of internal resources when handling HTTP/2 requests. A remote attacker can bypass the http2.Server.MaxConcurrentStreams setting by creating new connections while the current connections are still being processed, trigger resource exhaustion and perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
