Security Bulletin

This security bulletin contains information about 2 vulnerabilities.

1) Integer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU61541

Risk: High

CVSSv4.0: 8.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber]

CVE-ID: CVE-2022-26495

CWE-ID: CWE-190 - Integer overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow when processing NBD_OPT_INFO, NBD_OPT_GO, and NBD_OPT_EXPORT_NAME messages. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application, trigger an integer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
sys-block/nbd to version: 3.24

Vulnerable software versions

Gentoo Linux: All versions

sys-block/nbd: before 3.24

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Stack-based buffer overflow

EUVDB-ID: #VU61542

Risk: High

CVSSv4.0: 8.1 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Amber]

CVE-ID: CVE-2022-26496

CWE-ID: CWE-121 - Stack-based buffer overflow

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing NBD_OPT_INFO or NBD_OPT_GO messages. A remote unauthenticated attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application, trigger stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
