Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-36843)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in the modbus_mapping_free() function. A remote attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
2) Release of invalid pointer or reference (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-36845)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The vulnerability exists due to invalid pointer in the modbus_receive() function. A remote authenticated attacker can send a specially crafted message to the unit-test-server and cause a denial of service condition in the target system.
