Description

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to perform a denial of service attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in the extractImageSection() function in tools/tiffcrop.c. A local attacker can trick the victim into opening a specially crafted data, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and perform a denial of service attack.

Mitigation

Update the affected package tiff to the latest version.
