EUVDB-ID: #VU33162
Risk: Medium
CVSSv4.0: 4 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Green]
CVE-ID: CVE-2016-2037
CWE-ID:
CWE-119 - Memory corruption
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a remote non-authenticated attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.
The cpio_safer_name_suffix function in util.c in cpio 2.11 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write) via a crafted cpio file.
MitigationUpdate the affected packages.
app-arch/cpio to version: 2.13-r1
Gentoo Linux: All versions
app-arch/cpio: before 2.13-r1

Q & A
Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?
Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.
Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?
No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.
EUVDB-ID: #VU22598
Risk: Low
CVSSv4.0: 0.4 [CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:A/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:U/U:Clear]
CVE-ID: CVE-2019-14866
CWE-ID:
CWE-20 - Improper input validation
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to GNU cpio does not properly validate files when writing tar headers during tar archive creation. A local user can trick the victim into creating a tar archive out of a directory with specially crafted files. As a result the generated archive may contain files that the attacker does not have access to.
Update the affected packages.
app-arch/cpio to version: 2.13-r1
Gentoo Linux: All versions
app-arch/cpio: before 2.13-r1
CPE2.3https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202407-07
Q & A
Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?
No. This vulnerability can be exploited locally. The attacker should have authentication credentials and successfully authenticate on the system.
Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?
No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.
EUVDB-ID: #VU55853
Risk: High
CVSSv4.0: 8.9 [CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:P/U:Amber]
CVE-ID: CVE-2021-38185
CWE-ID:
CWE-190 - Integer overflow
Exploit availability: Yes
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow in the "ds_fgetstr" parameter in "dstring.c". A remote attacker can pass specially crafted data to the application, trigger integer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
MitigationUpdate the affected packages.
