Description

This security bulletin contains information about 9 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) Privilege escalation (CVE-ID: CVE-2017-5731)

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to an error when handling malicious input. A local attacker can supply specially crafted files in TianoCompress.c and gain elevated privileges.


2) Buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-12182)

The vulnerability allows a local user to escalate privileges on the system.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient memory write check in SMM service. A local user can trigger memory corruption and execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges.

3) Stack-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-12183)

The vulnerability allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in DxeCore. An attacker with physical access to the system can trigger a stack-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.


4) Authentication bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-3613)

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to logic error in MdeModulePkg. A local attacker can bypass configuration access controls and gain elevated privileges.


5) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2019-0160)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise vulnerable system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing untrusted input. A remote attacker can send specially crafted input to the application, trigger an out-of-bounds write and execute arbitrary code on the target system.


6) Cross-site scripting (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-9335)

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote authenticated attacker to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data. A remote attacker can trick the victim to follow a specially crafted link and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user's browser in context of vulnerable website.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.


7) Cross-site scripting (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-9337)

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote authenticated attacker to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to unspecified flaw. A remote attacker can modify HTML markup on the management web interface to obtain GlobalProtect password hashes of local users.


9) Security restrictions bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2018-9242)

The vulnerability allows a remote authenticated attacker to bypass security restrictions on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to an error when processing malicious input. A remote attacker can supply specially crafted request parameters to exploit a flaw in the Management interface and delete files on the target system.
