Description
This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.
1) Integer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-20696)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system.
The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow within the rar4 reader in Libarchive. A remote user can trick a victim to open a specially crafted file and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
2) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-26256)
The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.
The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error in libarchive. A remote attacker can trick the victim to open a specially crafted archive, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
