SB2024091819 - Multiple vulnerabilities in WinZip

Description

This security bulletin contains information about 2 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Security features bypass (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-8811)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise the affected system.

The vulnerability exists due to an error when handling archives. A remote attacker can bypass the Mark-of-the-Web protection mechanism and trick the victim into executing a malicious file from the archive file.

2) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: N/A)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise vulnerable system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing untrusted input. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted 7Z file, trick the victim into opening it using the affected software, trigger an out-of-bounds write and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
