CVE-ID: CVE-2023-46303

CWE-ID: CWE-918 - Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF)

Exploit availability: No

Description

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform SSRF attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input within the ink_to_local_path() function in ebooks/conversion/plugins/html_input.py. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request and trick the application to initiate requests to arbitrary systems.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker gain access to sensitive data, located in the local network or send malicious requests to other servers from the vulnerable system.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
app-text/calibre to version: 7.16.0

Vulnerable software versions

Gentoo Linux: All versions

app-text/calibre: before 7.16.0

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability.

2) Path traversal

EUVDB-ID: #VU95129

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 6.7 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N/E:P/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2024-6781

CWE-ID: CWE-22 - Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')

Exploit availability: No

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform directory traversal attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to input validation error when processing directory traversal sequences in cmd_export.py. A remote attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request and read arbitrary files on the system.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
app-text/calibre to version: 7.16.0

Vulnerable software versions

Gentoo Linux: All versions

app-text/calibre: before 7.16.0

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability. However, proof of concept for this vulnerability is available.

3) Incorrect authorization

EUVDB-ID: #VU95130

Risk: High

CVSSv3.1: 9.1 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H/E:F/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2024-6782

CWE-ID: CWE-863 - Incorrect Authorization

Exploit availability: Yes

Description

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass authorization checks.

The vulnerability exists due to improper access control in cmd_list.py. A remote attacker can bypass authorization and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Mitigation

Update the affected packages.
app-text/calibre to version: 7.16.0

Vulnerable software versions

Q & A

Can this vulnerability be exploited remotely?

Yes. This vulnerability can be exploited by a remote non-authenticated attacker via the Internet.

Is there known malware, which exploits this vulnerability?

No. We are not aware of malware exploiting this vulnerability. However, a fully functional exploit for this vulnerability is available.

4) Cross-site scripting

EUVDB-ID: #VU95127

Risk: Low

CVSSv3.1: 5.5 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N/E:P/RL:O/RC:C]

CVE-ID: CVE-2024-7008

CWE-ID: CWE-79 - Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')

Exploit availability: No

Description

The disclosed vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.

The vulnerability exists due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied data in /browse endpoint. A remote attacker can trick the victim to follow a specially crafted link and execute arbitrary HTML and script code in user's browser in context of vulnerable website.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to steal potentially sensitive information, change appearance of the web page, perform phishing and drive-by-download attacks.
