Description

This security bulletin contains information about 3 secuirty vulnerabilities.


1) NULL pointer dereference (CVE-ID: CVE-2016-9888)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to perform a denial of service (DoS) attack.

The vulnerability exists due to a NULL pointer dereference error. A remote attacker can trigger denial of service conditions via a crafted TAR file.


2) Integer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-36474)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow within the Compound Document Binary File format parser. A remote attacker can trick the victim into opening a specially crafted file, trigger an an out-of-bounds index to be used when reading and writing to an array and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.


3) Integer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2024-42415)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to integer overflow within the Compound Document Binary File format parser. A remote attacker can trick the victim into opening a specially crafted file, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.
