Description

This security bulletin contains information about 3 secuirty vulnerabilities.

1) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-44648)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when decoding the lzw compressed stream of image data in GIF files. A remote attacker can trick the victim to open a specially crafted GIF file, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result in complete compromise of vulnerable system.

2) Out-of-bounds write (CVE-ID: CVE-2021-46829)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to compromise vulnerable system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error when processing GIF images. A remote attacker can create a specially crafted GIF image, trick the victim into opening it using the affected software, trigger out-of-bounds write and execute arbitrary code on the target system.

3) Heap-based buffer overflow (CVE-ID: CVE-2022-48622)

The vulnerability allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

The vulnerability exists due to a boundary error within the ani_load_chunk() function in io-ani.c. A remote attacker can trick the victim to open a specially crafted .ani file, trigger a heap-based buffer overflow and execute arbitrary code on the target system.
