EUVDB-ID: #VU9720
Risk: Low
CVSSv3.1: 4.6 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]
CVE-ID: CVE-2017-16548
CWE-ID:
CWE-126 - Buffer over-read
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a remote attacker to cause DoS condition on the target system.
The weakness exists due to the receive_xattr function in xattrs.c does not check for a trailing '' character in an xattr name. A remote attacker can send specially crafted data to the daemon, trigger heap-based buffer over-read and cause the application to crash.
Update the affected package rsync.
Vulnerable software versionsSlackware Linux: 13.0 - 14.2

Risk: Low
CVSSv3.1: 6.4 [CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L/E:U/RL:O/RC:C]
CVE-ID: CVE-2018-5764
CWE-ID:
CWE-20 - Improper input validation
Exploit availability: No
DescriptionThe vulnerability allows a remote attacker to bypass security controls on the target system.
The weakness exists in the parse_arguments() function in 'options.c' due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input. A remote attacker can send multiple '--protect-args' values and bypass the argument-sanitization protection mechanism.
Update the affected package rsync.
